Prenatal breastfeeding consultation
Many of us reach parenthood having never really seen breastfeeding up close, let alone learned what to expect. A prenatal consultation gives you the knowledge, confidence and personalised plan to start your feeding journey feeling prepared, whatever your birth looks like.
The hours and first few days after birth are an important window for establishing breastfeeding and building your milk supply. We'll explore how to give breastfeeding the best possible start, while also making a plan for the unexpected.
Your consultation is tailored to you and your family's circumstances: I ask you to send my some of your main questions in advance so I tailor it to what you most want to know. For example, we might discuss:
Preparing for the first feeds and the early days after birth.
Building your milk supply
Protecting breastfeeding if birth doesn't go as planned.
Feeding your baby if they require special care or admission to the NICU.
Creating a birth plan (and a Plan B) that supports your breastfeeding goals.
Breastfeeding with a history of breast surgery.
Questions about breast or nipple anatomy, such as flat or inverted nipples.
Induced lactation for adoptive parents or the non-birthing parent.
Previous breastfeeding difficulties and how to approach this baby differently.
Expecting multiples.
Most prenatal consultations are held by video, making it easy to fit into your pregnancy wherever you are. If an in-person consultation would better meet your needs, I'm happy to discuss this with you.
